Kalbaryo 2009: Drama in Real Life (Part 2)

Jesus at Piate's palace
Jesus at Pilate's palace
This is the second part of 3 of Kalbaryo portrayed by the talented youths and adults of the local Catholic church here in our place, Brgy. La Granja, La Carlota City, Philippines.

If you were there in Jesus' Crucifixion, how do you feel?

Catholic devotees have their own way of celebrating Christ's passion. They dramatize it from Jesus's capture, verdict to death, and crucifixion.

In our locality as mentioned, I personally witnessed how this was done by a talented youths and adults. It was very touchy, not to the point of entertainment. It was well enhanced by a good sound effects.

School Pupils Trained in Kali-Arnis Defense

Demonstration on defense
Kali-Arnis or popularly known as Eskrima is a Filipino native type of weaponry effective for combat defense against aggressor.

The Department of Education has recently declared this as the national sports, replacing Sipa..

When I was the school principal of Nagasi Elementary School, Division of La Carlota I introduced this stick-defense to our grade four, five and six pupils under the instruction or training of Kali Master Jun de los Reyes.

Baston or 29-inch-rattan stick is used for training. This training usually takes 2 to 3 months and it is free of charge since the school principal is also a graduate of this training and he could be one of those masters.

My Singing Doll

This was my first song written and composed for my high school sweetheart, Rebecca Demabildo in 1968.

"My Singing Doll"
Rebecca was a music lover. She had various popular songs copied in some of her notebooks. Being inspired as her boy friend, I wanted to write something for her.  Since I was also a music lover, follower of pop group singers like the Herman Hermits, Gary Lewis and the Peacemakers, The Beatles, The Bee Gees, among others, I did play the guitar.

Then as a music student, I wanted to put what I learned from our music teacher. I wanted to become a music writer, a song composer. Rebecca came to my mind. So, I took time to compose and write my first song for her.

And "My Singing Doll" came to being, which later rejected by one of our high music teachers as a recitative kind of musical composition. That was the first frustration, I had had in my life. But my sweetheart kept on inspiring me. She said, "I love the song you made for me."

Here's the song which I embed it in a video for others to hear and to listen. Remember this is an amateur song composition. I sing it as I play the acoustic guitar. Click to listen to the song.
